Yes, Mother Goose was a real person. Her name was Mary, she married a man named Issac Vergoose, who shortened his name to the one that is so familiar to us. Mary Goose had children, attended the Old South Meeting House and told stories and rhymes to her grandchildren - which were later published by her son-in-law Thomas Fleet.
